One of the first in the business, Plam knows what busy business professionals need to keep their lives in order. “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” winning smartphone, the Palm Treo 750, is the newest in a line of Palm phones that uses Windows Mobile OS, threaded text display, quad-band and 3G capabilities, push email, full webpage access, a camera, Windows Media Player and more.
The Treo’s only real Achilles heal is that it is lacking Wi-Fi.
This little phone is a work horse. Using Microsoft Mobile Office you can view and edit Word and Excel documents; as well as view Power Point displays and PDF files. Outlook Mobile will sync with your traditional PC Outlook allowing you to send and receive email. Additionally, any changes you make to your Outlook applications like contacts and calendars will be updated on both devices.
The Treo 750 is GPS capable using AT&T’s TeleNav GPS Navigator.
The Treo 750 includes all your basic voice functions including conference calling and voice dialing. It includes Bluetooth 1.2 which enables you to switch from various Bluetooth modes seamlessly. One of the Treo’s best features is the threaded text display; so while texting or IMing, you can see the whole conversation as it progresses.
It includes AT&T’s high speed 3G technology and quad-band network including UMTS. However, it does not have HSPDA. For a phone that uses both technologies see the #1 review, AT&T 8525.
With Internet Explorer mobile you can browse the Internet using WAP 2.0 technology. Using Microsoft’s Active Sync you can sync your Outlook and get push mail from both your business accounts and personal POP3/IMAP4 accounts like Yahoo!
Additionally, you can use your phone as a modem for your laptop.
Although the Treo 750 has 3G, we were disappointed to see that it did not have Wi-Fi. If you are out of the 3G network your Internet capabilities are rendered almost useless. We would not suggest this phone for those outside large cities still building their network capabilities.
The Treo 750 includes a 1.3 mega pixel camera with 2x zoom, light balance and video recorder. Although this is standard, our top two Smart Phones include 2 mega pixel cameras.
Since this Palm integrates Windows Media Player 10 you can download songs, clips, videos and stream. The files will automatically convert to a compatible mobile format. However, this device only comes with about 60MB of available memory; therefore, to get the most out of your phone you will need to purchase a separate microSD memory card.
The Palm Treo 750 has a large, bright, 2.5 inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. At 4.4 inches high and 2.3 inches wide the Treo 750 is comparable to most Smart Phones, but at 5.4 ounces it is a relatively heavy PDA.
Although the Palm Treo 750 came in at #4, it’s likely you will not be disappointed with it’s feature set and performance. By integrating Palm style with Microsoft technology this Smart Phone is great for the busiest of business professionals; however, if you frequently travel to rural areas or live in the suburbs you may have difficulty using the 3G network and will be wishing this device included Wi-Fi.
